Match Report

On Saturday the Ladies 1st team started their season with a tough test away at Lichfield. Following on from positive performances in the County Tournament and pre season friendlies, WAT’s started well, playing the ball around and keeping possession. Positive breaks by Serina, Claire and Heidi saw the team create a number of chances forcing the Lichfield Keeper into some smart saves.

However, following some great defensive work and a vital block by the WATs keeper, a smart counter attack resulted in a penalty corner being awarded, which would eventually see WAT’s hard work rewarded when Emma Moore was able to push the ball home after some smart work by Heidi on the by line.

The second half saw Lichfield come back into the match, forcing Sophie, Michelle and Sara to make some vital challenges, as well as another piece of smart keeping by Kelly, preventing a clear cut chance. With time running out, Lichfield were able to win a penalty corner which was then deflected into the goal by the defence.

In the final stages of the game, either team could have won, with chances coming at both end, however the match ended in a draw. There were lots of positives to take from the performance and into the next game where the team face another tough away fixture against Stafford 1sts.
