or the second week in a row, WATS firsts faced a tough test away at Stafford 1sts. Facing injury problems and regular 1st team players unavailable, WATs found themselves defending constant Stafford attacks with the defence and midfield standing up well to the task in the first 15 minutes.
However, as the half progressed, some excellent work in the midfield between Jo and Moorzy led to the forwards slowly breaking through and creating chances in the Stafford D. Eventually the hard work paid off with Vicki B putting the ball into the goal following some excellent work from Alexis.
Soon after, following on from some excellent attacking play by Hannah and Taff, Alexis was able to slot the ball home to double WATs advantage.
As the game progressed, Stafford presses higher, forcing keeper Kelly into making a few smart saves to keep the score line at 2 nil. However, after some excellent defending by Sophie, Michelle and Katy, and a goal line clearance by Taff, WATS defence was finally beaten with the Stafford forward managing to turn the ball home.
With the score line now 2-1, Stafford continued to press WATS, again forcing Kelly into some crucial saves to keep the score at 2-1. However, despite a number of penalty corners and chances Stafford were unable to break the defence and WATs left Beaconside with a well deserved 3 points.
This was another solid performance, with some excellent defensive and attacking displays. Next week sees the 1st team play their first home game of the season against Uttoxeter at 2pm.
