Match Report

WATs took on Leeks 2nd team at home, looking to return to winning ways after a disappointing draw the previous week.

WATs started strongly, creating chances from the off and forcing the Leek keeper in to some smart stops. However, the deadlock was shortly broken by some excellent attacking play between Jo and Heidi, resulting with Vicky putting the ball past The advancing keeper. The lead was shortly doubled by Jo who struck a well driven strike from a penalty corner.

Following on from some excellent midfield play by Jas, Moorzy and Jess, Heidi was able to slot the ball home making it 3 nil. After some really good forward work Jo soon put the ball past the keeper to make it 4.

Despite being 4 nil down, Leek pressed well, creating a couple of chances which called Kelly, who had largely been a spectator for the most of the half, in to some smart saves. The defence of Michele, Sara and Sophie we’re playing some fantastic hockey, playing the ball well between them, making some vital interceptions and starting attacking plays. However, just before half time, their pressure paid off and Leek were able to put the ball away. Making it 4-1 going into half time.

The second half saw WAT’s start strongly again, and their perseverance was rewarded when Jo completed her hat trick with a smart finish. This was followed by a smart team goal by Heidi who added another to her tally.

There were some really impressive performances, from all units on the pitch. And this is a result which will fill the team with confidence going into their next game versus Bloxwich.

Goals- Jo - 3, Heidi - 2 and Vicki L - 1
