On Saturday 20th October, WATs 1st team travelled to Bloxwich 2nd’s for a match that could see them move top dependant on results around them.
From the start, WAT’s moved the ball around well creating some good chances to put Bloxwich under pressure. Good build up play from the midfield allowed Heidi to run at the defence, pushing the ball to Jo who saw her shot go narrowly wide. As the match progressed, WATs were able to play the ball around well, creating shots on goal that were either well saved or narrowly wide. Against the run of play, Bloxwich won a short corner, which they were able to put away with the help of an unfortunate touch by Sophie that meant the ball looped over the advancing keeper. This meant Bloxwich went in to the half time break with a 1 nil advantage.
After half time, WATs started well, forcing the Bloxwich defence into some vital challenges and saves. Eventually, Jo’s hard work and effort was rewarded with a smart finish past the helpless keeper. This was soon followed up by a diving finish by Jas after some smart play by Moorzy and Jess. To seal the victory, Jo was able to beat the keeper once again with a smart finish after some great build up play from Heidi. Despite a 2 goal lead, WATs continued to press and could have had a couple more had it not been for the posts saving Bloxwich.
It was another good victory by WATs first team which saw them move to the top of the league going into the half term break. Captain, goalkeeper Kelly, has been really impressed by the commitment and dedication of all players which has led to some really positive performances on the pitch. Something that she hopes continues when WAT’s return to action on Saturday 10th November at home to Cannock 3’s who always provide a stern test.
